True, but if that is anywhere near what he gets, the bruins will walk, me thinks...
Or, they keep him, but savard, or ryder is gone.

its not like Arbritration rulings are based on any kind of team salary structure... just on stats...

Keep Wheeler, still plenty of upside there, show Ryder the door he has peaked & is in his prime.

The Arbitrator in McCarthur's case is plain stupid, Wheeler won't get 4 million.

Wheeler's arbitration case concludes
Written by Fluto Shinzawa, Globe Staff Blake Wheeler's arbitration case has concluded. Both sides will now wait for the arbitrator to issue a decision within the 48-hour window. "I think it was handled very professionally by both sides," said Matt Keator, Wheeler's agent. "Our interpretation of the marketplace is different from theirs, hence the disagreement. I think both sides handled it well, keeping it professionally. They pointed out Blake's shortcomings. We pointed out Blake's strengths. But Blake already knew his shortcomings. He knows what he needs to work on. There were no hurt feelings in what was said. It was not contentious at all." Keator did not disclose any comparables that were discussed during the hearing. However, it's a good bet that Mason Raymond ($2.55 million annual cap hit), Nikolai Kulemin ($2.35 million), and David Perron ($2.15 million) were comparables brought up by both parties. Because of his statistics over the last two seasons (83 points, 163 of a possible 164 games played, ample ice time in all situations), Wheeler's award could be in the $2.5 million range. Even if Wheeler's one-year award is costlier than the Bruins expected, they are highly unlikely to walk away from the 23-year-old left wing. "No way," said Keator. "These 6-foot-5 players who have 83 points over their first two seasons don't grow on trees. I don't get that sense at all."

My guess is 2.3-2.5 mil tops. Could be less given the stats he pulled last year.
Just because it goes to arbitrators, it doesn't necessarily go in the player's favor. Just a dice they roll if the team doesn't give him what he wants. And the Walking away part? Up in the air. Bruins have walked away before and PC is smart about it. He will weight the pros and cons to it. Me thinks Ryder will be gone or in Providence to work on his game, Sturm will be in the LTIR list till sometime in November, and there still can be some moves made. Gonna get interesting...

Do you really think Jacobs will let $4M rot in the minor leagues?

If you want your talent to play, yes. Otherwise you don't get the players you want signed, or you go over the cap and that is a lose-lose situation.
In the cap world, 4 mil is fine to sacrifice. If a major player gets hurt, call Ryder up. If not, trade him. I like Ryder but he is streaky. It's not like high paid players were not sent down to the AHL to work on their game before. Besides. The season tickets are sold out, money is gonna be made, so I think Jacobs won't have a problem with it.

so is today the day they should find out the decision?
Well like some have said.. there is not really a salary cap if your owners are willing to spend the money and have some of it in the minors... If you were thinking of buying the player out .. probably better to just send to minors if the actually $$ are not that big of an impact on your bottom line.. Thats something that the big market teams can do.. |

2.2 Million is a fair price to pay for wheeler.
Now, it's yr #3, which is common a breakout season, so let him prove the he is worth more and go from threre.

Bruins should have signed him to 2.5 to 3 million 5 year deal before hand, think Wheeler is a keeper and only going to progress.

I have a feeling there will be some changes yet to come and in the following year. Lots of contracts to review at the end of the year.
